How do I get a permit to trade at the Fair?

You must obtain a permit to trade at the 2011 Fair if you wish to sell food, this permit must be obtained beforehand.

If you traded from a food stall or mobile vehicle on the market fields at the 2010 Fair you will already have received an application form. All application forms must be returned by 31 March 2011 at the latest to the landowner, Mr J Winter (see details below). Your application will then be passed to Eden District Council’s Environmental Health Officers who will assess your application, this includes taking into account your previous history of compliance with food hygiene and safety legislation.

As part of the application process, every food business operator will have to provide details about which local authority he/she is registered with (food business operators are required to register under the Food Hygiene (England) Regulations 2006 with their local council). Where necessary, Eden District Council’s Environmental Health Officers will check the information provided with the relevant authority. You will also be required to provide basic details about the type of food and drink you intend to sell at the Fair.

If your application is approved, your permit will be sent to you by Mr Winter in April 2011 together with information about environmental health, fire safety and trading standards requirements.

The number of food operator permits issued will be limited to a maximum of 45. No applications for the 2011 Fair will be accepted after the closing date of 31 March 2011.
